Position Summary

Canada’s electricity sector is experiencing significant growth and transformation. As Canadians electrify their homes and vehicles, integrate renewable energy technologies into the grid and embrace the impact of digital technology, it is crucial to bring together employers, unions, post-secondary institutions and policymakers to address the labour challenges confronting the sector.

Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) is working with its partners to build a world-class, safety-focused, innovative and inclusive electricity workforce. One element of this work is to forecast the labour market requirements for the future and understand the current labour market context.

The Labour Market Economist works closely with another economist and plays a pivotal role in EHRC’s Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) team. They gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative information, produces labour market forecasts and authors high quality written reports. The research carried out by the LMI team directly impacts the efficiency of electricity sector participants, as well as those transitioning from other sectors of the economy into it. As a member of a small but enthusiastic team, the successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Research and Policy. They will propose, develop and implement appropriate research methodologies—such as focus group analysis and surveys, to obtain input/perspectives from EHRC’s stakeholders, which primarily include employers, unions, trade associations and academic institutions. The Labour Market Economist oversees and supports the development and delivery of labour market research specific to Canada’s electricity, renewable power and other related industries.
