Beyond the Firsts: What Real Gender Equity Looks Like in the Electricity Sector

International Women’s Day 2026 Panel Discussion
International Women’s Day (March 8) often highlights milestones: the “first woman,” increased representation and other visible wins. These moments matter, but they are not the same as equity.
This 1‑hour virtual panel moves the conversation beyond optics to examine what actually shapes women’s experiences in the electricity sector. From frontline roles to leadership pathways, panellists will explore where women continue to face barriers, why progress stalls after entry and how workplace systems around safety, scheduling, advancement and accountability either support or undermine equity.
Featuring voices from operations, workforce development and organizational leadership, the discussion focuses on practical, sector‑specific actions that create lasting change. The goal is not inspiration alone, but clarity about what needs to shift — and who is responsible for making it happen.
Panellists
- Rebecca Caron, President, Society of United Professionals
- Joanna Osawe, President & CEO, Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE)
- Lenore Robson, VP, People, Culture & Strategic Policy, Ontario Energy Board
- Michelle Branigan, CEO, EHRC
