Energy and Electricity Workforce Alliance

Canada’s energy and electricity sectors are growing rapidly, creating demand for skilled workers across conventional energy, electricity, renewables, nuclear and emerging technologies.

The Energy and Electricity Workforce Alliance brings industry leaders and workforce partners together to address workforce challenges and help ensure Canada has the talent needed to support major projects, economic growth and long-term energy security.

The Alliance is one of six national Workforce Alliances supported by the Government of Canada and focused on sectors of strategic importance to Canada’s economy.

Canada’s energy system is a cornerstone of the national economy, supporting workers and communities across the country. It spans conventional oil and gas, electricity and renewable technologies, helping meet growing domestic and global energy demand. As the sector evolves and major projects move forward, workforce capacity will be critical to ensuring Canada can build, operate and maintain the infrastructure needed for future growth.

The sector is entering a period of significant growth and transformation. Growing electricity demand, major infrastructure investments and expanding project development are increasing demand for skilled workers across the country.

At the same time, employers are facing mounting workforce pressures. Competition for talent is increasing, labour shortages persist in critical occupations, and regional workforce constraints continue to make recruitment and retention challenging. From powerline technicians to mechanical engineers, many roles remain difficult to fill.

As Canada works to expand its energy infrastructure and meet future demand, attracting, training and retaining skilled talent will be essential to the sector’s continued growth and success.

The Energy and Electricity Workforce Alliance is a national collaboration that brings together employers, labour, educators, Indigenous partners, industry associations and other stakeholders to identify workforce priorities and support industry-led solutions.
