We’re seeking partners to help drive a transformative initiative that opens doors to careers in the electricity sector and advances Indigenous inclusion in the workforce.
Inspiring the next generation
The Bright Futures Youth Camps spark curiosity and build confidence in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) among Indigenous youth in grades 6 to 8. Through hands-on programming, the camps highlight the importance of STEM and introduce exciting career pathways in the electricity and renewable energy sector.
Youth have an opportunity to connect with Indigenous role models working in the industry, helping them see how their communities and cultures are reflected in these fields. The program fosters a sense of belonging, empowerment and possibility—laying the foundation for bright futures in the electricity landscape.
The camps are fully subsidized and offered at no cost to participants or host communities.

Sparking curiosity in electricity
Delivering impact since 2009
EHRC launched the Bright Futures Youth Camps to address a key barrier to Indigenous participation in the electricity and renewable energy sector: limited access to early STEM education. Since 2009, the camps have introduced Indigenous youth across Canada to the exciting possibilities of science, technology, engineering and math, with a focus on electricity.
Youth empowerment through STEM
The camps are designed for youth in grades 6 to 8, a critical age for sparking interest in STEM. Each host school is carefully and collaboratively selected to reach rural and remote Indigenous communities that can benefit most from this hands-on, culturally grounded experience.
Throughout the week-long program, students engage in interactive activities, facilitated discussions and demonstrations that build STEM literacy and confidence. Indigenous culture is woven into the experience, with the local community participating in programming, such as opening and closing ceremonies, prayers or smudging, following community traditions.

Hands-on learning rooted in culture
Bright Futures is delivered during the academic year with our partner Elephant Thoughts, a national charity dedicated to promoting the availability of quality education for youth.
The in-school camp program includes:
- An introduction to the basics of electricity
- Exploration of generation methods (wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, nuclear)
- Understanding electricity distribution and its challenges
- Circuitry and tools of the trade
- Games, demonstrations and direct interaction with industry professionals
Cultural respect is central to the experience, ensuring students see themselves—and their communities—reflected in the future of energy.
