In 2023, Muhammad’s leadership and influence in his field were recognized when he was named on The Peak’s Emerging Leaders list.

Power System Engineering Analyst, Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO)

Anjula is a Power System Engineering Analyst at the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), where she plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation of Ontario’s electricity grid. She contributes to the daily operating plan for the control room as part of the Market Forecast and Resource Integration team. Anjula holds a bachelor’s degree from the National Institute of Technology Trichy, India, and a master’s in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto. Her interest in power system economics and optimization has driven her academic and personal research. Having lived in three countries, Anjula values global collaboration and inclusion. She joined WiRE in 2023 to empower women in the energy sector, serving on WiRE’s Advisory Committee and as an ambassador for WiRE Juniors. Anjula’s journey, shaped by science and leadership clubs, inspires her to support young minds today.

Vice-President, External & Indigenous Relations and Communications at Manitoba Hydro

Jeff is the Vice-President, External & Indigenous Relations and Communications at Manitoba Hydro, overseeing internal and external communications, employee engagement Indigenous and stakeholder relations. Prior to joining Manitoba Hydro in 2018, he held leadership roles at Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, TC Energy and Manitoba Metis Federation. Jeff holds an MBA from the University of Birmingham, a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba and certificates in negotiation and conflict resolution from Dalhousie University and Indigenous Peoples and Canadian Law from Osgoode Hall Law School. He serves on the board of Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre and recently served on the board of Economic Development Winnipeg.

Ekaterina is a Director of Environment, Health, Safety, and Human Resources with over 20 years of experience in construction, ICI and the oil and gas industries. She has worked with Birnie Electric, Modern Niagara and Imperial Oil to enhance safety standards and drive risk mitigation. Known for her strong leadership, problem-solving skills and commitment to workplace safety and equality, Ekaterina is a passionate advocate for job site safety. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family.

Michelle is a prominent figure in the electricity and renewable energy sector, known for her expertise in labour market intelligence and HR best practices. Leading EHRC’s strategic direction, she has guided the organization to become a key source of valuable insights, programs and resources that drive industry solutions. A skilled moderator and commentator, Michelle has received numerous accolades, including WiRE’s Woman of the Year and recognition at COP27 as one of the 100 Canadian women spearheading Canada’s energy transition. She also received the 2024 Impact Campaigner Award for her commitment to promoting gender diversity and equity within the energy sector. Michelle serves on boards of the Energy Council of Canada, the Bruce Power Advisory Committee and the Irish Film Festival Ottawa.

Haida Liu is an Engineer in the Capacity Planning & Grid Innovation Team at Toronto Hydro, leading the Stations Expansion portfolio and contributing to regional electricity planning. She holds a degree in Integrated Engineering from Western University and previously worked as a Project Manager at Kinectrics Inc. As a first-generation immigrant, Haida is committed to fostering an inclusive industry, guided by mentors throughout her journey. She actively contributes to Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) and serves on the Board of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) East Toronto Chapter, championing diversity and equitable representation in the energy sector.

Manager, Asset Management, Newfoundland Power

With over 15 years of industry experience, Liz Palmera-Nunez is the Manager of Asset Management at Newfoundland Power, leading a diverse team to implement best practices across all business units. Throughout her career, Liz has advanced through roles of increasing seniority and responsibility, fostering the growth and development of multidisciplinary teams. Prior Newfoundland Power, she gained valuable experience at BC Hydro and Maritime Electric. Liz holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Memorial University and is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) and the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL). Her leadership extends to board appointments with Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC), the Advisory Council on Occupational Health and Safety, PEGNL and Women in Science and Engineering Newfoundland and Labrador (WiseN). As a refugee, person of color and female in a male-dominated field, Liz advocates for diversity, equity and inclusion, inspiring others with her story.

As a proven specialist in HR and with leadership roles at Ontario Power Generation, he values building relationships, coaching and fostering inclusive workplace practices. Nirav holds a degree from the University of Waterloo, a Master of Human Resources Management from York University and is a Certified Human Resources Leader. As Chair of EHRC’s Board of Directors, leading the organization’s mission to strengthen the Canadian electricity workforce. An active supporter of the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and the White Ribbon campaign, Nirav enjoys cycling around Toronto and spending time with his two children.

Jennifer Smith is an accomplished senior executive with over 20 years of experience in the electrical distribution industry, including 15 years in senior leadership roles. As the Executive Vice President of Corporate and Chief People Officer at Burlington Enterprises Corporation, she oversees strategy, governance, human resources, stakeholder and customer relations, health and safety, and corporate communications. Jennifer is an active volunteer in the electrical and business community, serving as Past Chair of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce and a current member of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She chairs the GridSmartCity Cooperative Human Resources Committee and has participated in various EHRC steering committees. Jennifer holds a Chartered Director (C.Dir.) designation and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Digital Transformation from the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University, as well as the designation of Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL).

Yoana joined EHRC in 2022, leveraging her extensive project management experience to help youth and equity-deserving communities access employment in the electricity and renewable energy sectors. Originally from Bulgaria, she understands the challenges of entering the labour market and works to remove these barriers. Yoana has worked in the non-profit, labour and education sectors as an advocate, facilitator, administrator and organizer. She holds an MBA from Concordia University and a BA in Communications from Ithaca College. Passionate about international cuisine and baking, including the beloved Bulgarian sweet bread “kozunak,” Yoana enjoys sampling dishes from around the world and chasing after her energetic dog, Finn.

They are committed to building a robust, relevant, and accessible educational program that supports ECAO members across Ontario. Their work focuses on strengthening workforce performance, fostering collaborative and inclusive workplaces, enhancing recruitment and retention, and ensuring safety and compliance across the industry. Known for their critical yet solutions-oriented approach, Témoc applies an equity-driven lens to workforce development, ensuring programs are adaptable and responsive to the sector’s evolving needs. Whether through the design of impactful training or strategic policy insights, they are passionate about equipping teams with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.

Vivian has devoted 26 years to Hydro One and serves as Senior Manager of Diversity Equity and Inclusion. She specializes in DEI, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, HR Operations and Career Counselling. A certified facilitator, she developed the StepUp program on inclusion, respect and psychological safety, training over 40 instructors. Vivian holds degrees in Psychology, Sociology and Adult Learning, and chairs Electricity Canada’s EDI Committee. In 2024, she received the EHRC Agent of Change Award and Catalyst Honours Award for her leadership and dedication to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace. Vivian is a proud mother of two children, Amanda and Andreas.
