June 17, 2020, Ottawa — Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) has released comprehensive online resources to help employers in the electricity sector sharpen their competitive edge when it comes to attracting and retaining diverse talent. Illuminate Opportunity, the latest resource from EHRC, is a first-of-its-kind toolkit dedicated to supporting diversity, equity and inclusion practices for employers in Alberta.
The toolkit guides employers to apply a diversity and inclusion lens to their recruitment and retention strategies and benefit from the full range of qualified individuals, many of whom are under-represented in the sector. In particular, the toolkit focuses on women, Indigenous peoples, youth and newcomers to Canada. It provides quick tips on what steps to take for a successful start, how to support inclusion for employee development, how to manage more inclusively and support inclusive team collaboration.
“Removing subtle barriers to the application process usually requires minimal effort, while the payoff is significant,” said Michelle Branigan, CEO of EHRC. “Inclusive recruitment and retention practices lead to a motivated and engaged workforce and having a diversity of perspectives will ultimately strengthen any organization.”
The toolkit helps organizations build awareness, skills and knowledge on diversity, equity and inclusion. It includes a comprehensive online experience including a series of videos explaining the application of these practices, an online learning platform and knowledge checks to verify learning.
The toolkit is accessible at electricityhr.ca/illuminate-opportunity
The toolkit has been funded in part by the Government of Alberta.
