my name is Chris Williams and I’m a
power cable technician with Hydro Ottawa
power cable technicians work on the
Underground residential distribution of
the hydroelectric grid we deliver power
to all the different houses in the city
all different buildings skyscrapers
Industries factories
in the past three years we’ve had
multiple major storms here in Ottawa and
they’ve completely destroyed our
electrical grid as a team we were able
to get together work together problem
solve and figure out where the problems
were how to fix them and how we could
get the neighborhoods and communities
back online
when I was younger I used to take things
apart all the time I would drive
tractors on our family farm I love the
big machines I love getting into the
work and I love getting my hands dirty
and being outside
if you’re someone who loves to be
outside and loves to be working with
your hands working with machines and
doing technical things this is the
perfect job for you
one of the things I’m most proud about
working for hydro Ottawa is that I get
to go home with a sense of satisfaction
that everybody’s got their lights on
everybody’s TVs are running and they’re
happy and warm in their homes
