hi my name is Catherine Taylor and I am

the superintendent of health safety and

environment at Maritime electric the

health and safety department is a

support mechanism for the company so how

can we train our staff to look for

hazards what direct controls are in

place to prevent those hazards to make

sure that everyone’s working as safe as

they can what what I find rewarding

about my job is that you’re just always

working towards building a more safe

culture at the workplace so for me I

like that challenge I like trying to

figure out how to do their job safely to

go in the health and safety profession

you would definitely want to have some

type of background in physics and math

and all that to be able to understand

you know what goes on at a utility but I

also think that leaning into the

business side as well as more of like

the soft skills is also a really big

component

I think if you like problem solving and

you are looking for a career that is

both technically challenging but as well

you get the feeling that you’re always

helping people then this is definitely

it for you
