CEO Michelle Branigan represented EHRC at the tenth Clean Energy Ministerial and fourth Mission Innovation Ministerial (CEM10/MI-4) in Vancouver in May. This event brought together clean energy leaders from 25 countries to discuss the many advancements in technology, policy, and innovation. This year, as host, Canada set the bar high for gender equality, embedding it into the very design of the program—from the composition of panels and delegations, to the way delegates shared initiatives and best practices.
EHRC were honoured to moderate the Women in Clean Energy Breakfast, a flagship event which is an initiative of Clean Energy Education and Empowerment initiative (C3E), whose mandate is to foster collective action in addressing gender equality in the energy sector. Highlights of the event included the presentation of the inaugural C3E Awards, the first Equal by 30 Success Stories, as well as an armchair discussion and Q & A with public and private sector leaders, including Associate Deputy Minister Shawn Tupper and Brookfield CEO Josée Guibord.
Michelle also participated in the CEM Roundtable on Communities and Workers, where participants were given the opportunity to deliver their perspectives on how the clean energy transition is challenging existing employment and skills needs in clean and traditional energy alike, both in Canada and internationally. We are extremely proud of the quality of our workforce and energy in Canada, and it was a distinguished honour to speak to the excellent work that Canadians are doing in the electricity sector. We look forward to continuing to promote our industry as a leader to stakeholders across the world and congratulate Minister Sohi and NRCan for an amazing accomplishment.
