Position Summary
Canada’s electricity sector is experiencing significant growth and transformation. As Canadians electrify their homes and vehicles, integrate renewable energy technologies into the grid and embrace the impact of digital technology, it is crucial to bring together employers, unions, post-secondary institutions and policymakers to address the labour challenges confronting the sector.
Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) is working with its partners to build a world-class, safety-focused, innovative and inclusive electricity workforce.
The Program Manager, Accreditation and Training leads the implementation of training and accreditation programs for electricity sector occupations and competency development. Working closely with a small team, this role manages stakeholder relationships and oversees the national rollout of EHRC’s accreditation program. This position is being created to support the electricity industry in standardizing training outcomes for emerging occupations across Canada.
Responsibilities
- Implement EHRC’s accreditation program and subsequent training programs for the electricity sector.
- Expand participation in the accreditation program and competency framework among training institutions.
- Manage the development and execution of new training programs.
- Oversee competency research related to emerging technologies in the sector.
- Monitor project workplans and submit activity and financial reports to project leads and funders.
- Identify and build relationships with stakeholders interested in, and supportive of, accreditation and new technology training.
- Design, manage and monitor project activities to ensure high-quality deliverables on time and on budget while working to identify and mitigate project risks.
- Lead consultant procurement and manage consultant relationships.
- Collaborate with marketing, project and stakeholder engagement teams to meet project objectives.
- Support steering committee meetings and focus groups, including member coordination.
- Establishes performance measurement strategies to monitor program effectiveness.
- Work with leadership to refine EHRC’s accreditation sustainability model.
- Contribute to identifying and securing new funding sources for labour market initiatives.
- Represent EHRC at the federal, provincial and territorial levels and with other organizations.
- Perform other duties as required by the organization from time to time.
Qualifications
- University degree in Social Sciences, Education, Business or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master’s degree in relevant discipline preferred.
- Five to seven years of experience managing training, labour market or social science programs.
- Experience managing accreditation or certification programs is a strong asset.
- Project management experience; PMP designation is considered an asset.
- Experience in competency analysis and development is an asset.
- Experience managing federally or provincially funded projects is an asset.
- Experience in workforce development, competency development or training is an asset.
- Strong communication, report writing, facilitation and collaboration skills.
- Experience in partnership development and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to present to senior external audiences.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Internet research, etc.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in English, French is an asset.
Work Environment
- Ottawa-based, hybrid work environment (minimum 3 days in office per week).
- Small office with a team of about 15 staff.
- Close to public transport, paid parking available and local amenities nearby.
- Some travel across Canada is required.
Compensation and Benefits
- One-year contract with automatic conversion to permanent on successful completion of year one deliverables.
- Salary: $70,000 to $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
- 15 days of paid vacation annually, 1 paid volunteer day and 3 bonus days in December.
